How a Bicycle is Made (1945) (The design and manufacture of Raleigh bicycles)

Wednesday, May 16th, 2012

The title says it all in this compelling film from 1945 depicting the process involved with manufacturing a bicycle.
As a fan of the advancement in technology, it’s really comforting to know that this is still how we make bicycles
today (give or take a few processes).

Enjoy, enjoy.

Thank you very much to the British Film Council.

Stay tuned.

Royce x 14 Bike Co track dropout now available

Wednesday, May 9th, 2012

As you may know, 14 Bike Co announced the production of the 14R Track/Low-pro a couple of months ago…

At Bespoked Bristol we displayed the first two prototypes of each model, one of which was Mikey Ramirez’s 14R Low-pro,
which both had blanks of the well known 14R drop out fitted. After the Bespoked show we talked to Royce, (who make some
of the finest track hubs on the planet among other components) and as a result of this, Royce agreed to
produce the 14R drop outs for us.

These are the only drop outs Royce have ever agreed to produce. We gave them the basic drop out design and asked
them if they could make any improvements. The main improvement is the on the reverse of the 14R dropout, Royce have
managed to mill out a fair bit more of the 316 stainless steel than the original drop outs. Whilst adding a touch
of typical Royce detailing.

“I’m stoked to have been able to work with Royce on the 14R Drop outs. These are not just lifeless pieces of stainless steel anymore, they have had more attention to detail put into them than any other track
drop out I know of…” Æ

If you have already ordered a 14R then your bike will include the Royce drop outs at no extra cost.

The 14R Track/Low Pro frame will come with Royce drop outs as standard from now on.

14R Track / Low Pro (frame only) – £795.00
14R Reynolds 853 Aero Frame with Royce Stainless 316 Steel Drop outs: £795.00

Fork Options:
Fork option No.1: Alpina F04 Carbon 1 1/8th Track Fork £99.99
Fork option No.2: Alpina Wing Pista Carbon Monocoque 1 1/8th Track Fork £249.99
Forks will be painted in 14R Matte Black to match your 14R frame. (Any other colour will cost extra on top of the retail price)

If you would like to order a 14R or have any questions, please email: info@14bikeco.com

Army ESB heads towards a new paint job . . .

Thursday, May 3rd, 2012

After many years, I’ve decided to give my beloved army inspired ESB a make-over. I sent it off to the paint shop a little

while ago and now just waiting for its return.

So, for the last couple of weeks I have been using a Barclays bicycle. I don’t want to knock them, thank god for them,
otherwise I wouldn’t of had a bike to get around on, but boy, they’re heavy to cycle, especially compared to my light
weight ESB.

Hopefully, next week with some better weather my bicycle should be built up. I shall, of course post up some more
pictures too.

Raw 14R and Andy Ellis wheel building

Wednesday, May 2nd, 2012

(14R and Andy Ellis image via JW)

With a few days of sunny weather it really is a treat to be able to work outside. The top photograph depicts one
of our 14R’s pre-paint shop. It’s practically good enough to ride like that so I’m looking forward to the first raw
finish with a clear lacquer. The second image is of Andy Ellis building himself a wheel-set. Andy Ellis is the brains
behind our 14R, so it’s really great to have him as part of the 14 family.

Summer is almost here so be sure to leave yourself enough time for ordering the 14R’s.
