Monday, February 28th, 2011

okay so this piece on road fixie is a little tongue in cheek but there are some pieces of truth in there, which I think
is pretty terrible. more HERE

Aidan took a photo with a proper camera, though the colours aren’t strong enough, it’s mad bright! You know what, I think I dig it

today’s trick roundup

Monday, February 28th, 2011

first up here’s another single spotter from Wolfdrawn for citygrounds, featuring the riding
styles of Matt Spencer, Congo and Corey in a local carpark. Some really cool stuff in here,
switch 180, tyre slide, wheelie 180 and swishy 3-tap off were all really sick, I like these
edits! Oh and don’t worry it’s not 9 minutes long there’s a song after the footage

and now here’s some dopeness from Matt Reyes of Slumworm and Joe Kay on a BMX
in their lunch break, some smooth and technical riding, I like it!

that’s all folks!

Brazil Critical Mass Attempted Murder

Monday, February 28th, 2011

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KRgiIrHRoHM

A terrible thing happened at last friday’s Critical Mass ride in Porto Alegre, Brazil. The driver of a
black Golf (supposedly named Ricardo José Neis) decided to plough through a throng of cyclists
in peaceful protest. I don’t even mean like honking and weaving through, the dude just floored it
right through them, sending people and bikes flying into the air. One of the most disgusting things
I’ve seen happen on the road, I sincerely hope the driver gets put away for as long as possible,
what a disgusting example of what humans can do to eachother

friday ride 25th february 2011

Saturday, February 26th, 2011

Oscar, Mikey, Ted, Cedric, Kamille and Greg went for a big old ride yesterday – Starting at
9am at Ted’s workshop for bacon sandwiches and tea, then heading to Canning Town,
Thames Barrier, Thamesmead and a bunch of other spots along the way before Abbey Wood.

Greg and Cedric were busy snapping away at each spot (definitely some dope shots to
come!) and at a few spots Oscar, Ted and I remembered to bring out the camera, so here
are a few clips I quickly strung together last night. It’s a bit fast so you might need to watch
it a couple of times to see everything but it shows some of the riding and some of the fun
we had yesterday.

Probably the funnest day of riding I’ve ever had (I even got some rad scratches) and it was
great to spend it with such cool people. Fixedgearlondon, SOFB, Steel Magazine, 14bikeco
it’s all good. Thanks for riding guys!

Fixed&What ESBingo!

Saturday, February 26th, 2011

“RIGHT RIGHT! So, for our big exclusive fancy periodical launch (which is now moving dates because of an
unnamed event happening on the same night—more info soon) we’re busting out a game of Bingo. Every
fucker likes Bingo, right? Right. We know Ty does. So here’s the sitch:

Prizes

1st — An Extra Strong Beast (ESB yo) frame and fork in an exclusive F&W colourway.

2nd — A bunch of great stuff from The 5th Floor, The Foot Down, Fixed Shit Up, Zlog, Rare Kind, Fixed, And
What and the 4TN range.

3rd — The same as 2nd, but just a little less stuff.

So the first person to get a full house gets 1st prize, first person to get two rows gets 2nd prize, and first person
to get one row gets 3rd. Markers available on the night!

It’s £5 a ticket. Come on, that’s pretty good. You’re gonna get a free magazine and an equal chance to win some
fucking cool shit. You can buy as many as you like, but the amount being sold is limited to 100, that’s just in case
we get 500 people playing at once, which could be hard to control…

We’ll hold onto your ticket until the big night (which will be announced shortly), so we know that no little fucker
will try and duplicate these super authentic design onto their own shoddy blue paper. Your name and amount of
tickets will be put down onto the Bingo, And What list, and then you’ll need to shout up on the launch to get your
handful. Go over to our shop and get yours now!”

Student documentary on London bicycle messengers 1997

seen over at Council of DOOM this is probably my favourite courier documentary I’ve seen.
A good mix of voices; police, cab drivers, the couriers themselves… and it’s cool because
they don’t talk about their bikes! I dunno a lot of courier video stuff that comes out nowadays
is all ‘NO BRAKS CRAZEY DEATH DEFYING COURIERS HARDCORE’ in which they spend
most of the time justifying the fixed gear/brakeless system and it’s not so much about
their occupation as about their drivetrain. Also, LONDON! hell yes, I like it very much
